We’re excited to share that Payment Plans v1.6 is officially LIVE NOW. This update introduces two major upgrades that give you more control, reduce plugin dependency, and improve the way your store handles installment payments.
What’s New in Payment Plans v1.6
- No More WooCommerce Subscriptions Plugin Required
You no longer need the WooCommerce Subscriptions plugin to offer flexible payment plans. Payment Plans v1.6 now works independently, saving you on plugin costs and simplifying your setup.
This means:
- A lighter, more streamlined WooCommerce stack
- Fewer compatibility concerns during updates
2. Manual Order System for Renewals
The new Manual Order System gives customers the option to manually process each renewal payment—ideal for businesses that want to offer more flexibility and transparency.
Customers initiate each installment, helping reduce failed payments and giving them control over when to pay, within the defined payment schedule.
Supported Payment Methods
Payment Plans v1.6 supports a broad range of gateways, including:
- Stripe
- PayPal
- Square
- WooPayments
Customers can also choose from:
- Credit/debit cards
- Digital wallets
- Bank transfers (when manual orders are enabled)
How to Enable the Manual Order System
- Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Payment Plans
- Check the Manual Order System option
- Click Save Changes
With this enabled:
- The first payment creates a parent order
- Each installment generates a child order
- All orders are linked for easy tracking and management
When the manual option is disabled, payments are processed automatically, using online methods only.
Why This Update Matters
For Store Owners:
- No subscription plugin required
- Fewer failed payments due to auto-charge errors
- Support for both online and offline renewal payments
- Simplified order tracking through parent-child structure
For Customers:
- Manual control over when to pay
- Access to multiple payment methods
- Transparent schedule for upcoming payments
